October 08 model revisions

Just been to see my new 08 being unpacked.

Aparrently it's the latest updated one and has LED indicators (tiny little things that look like they should be on a sportsbike).

Does anyone know what the other revisions are? Just curious.

We are at the end of the 08 bikes. The 09 bikes are due out soon. So I hope you got a good deal on the run out 08

2008model variations

105 bhp (100) /Alternator 720W (600) / Gear ratios top 0.848: 1 (0.81) etc through all gears / Final drive 2.91:1 (2.82)/Single spoke alloy wheels 'double) / width at bars 940mm (915) : seat height 850/870mm (840/860) / So altogether not great chnages but the gearbox is new and smoother they say -but my old one was fine anyway! And of course you can have more options such as ASC. And your old tankbag won't fit because the petrol filler has been improved/modified;

LED indicators aren't an update they are an optional extra on the 08 bike and come as part of the comfort(? the one with the heated grips in) pack.

I have them on my bike and they are are not only smaller and look better, they are much brighter too.

Something new

Looks like it is 09 spec. according to BMW info.

Screen bracket is different to earlier 08 bikes, different shape.

Anti vibration kit only fits with drilling through 'tube'. Had to make small mod for Migsel's excellent GPS bracket to fit without fouling the screen.

Still searching or other differences.

i bought 08 gs end of july with comfort/dynamic pack standard indicators on mine,,, was in dealer the other day seen gs with led indicators looked well,,, told me they where optional extra at £90 no one told me at the time they where a option so thought id ask any word of 09 model yet? ans,, no sorry dont even have the spec on 09 yet,,,,

The reason (as you know) they offer the LED indicators as an option is cause the std filament type bulbs keep blowing because of all the vibrations from them tractor type bikes you all ride

Even John Deere's dont offer LED indicators as an option and they are tractors as well

09 GS

The 09 model started shipping from Sept 08. I collected my '09' GS three weeks ago. The bike well discounted, came with the LED mini indicators as standard and had paintwork changed foc.

you seem to no your tractors wish harry ferguson had been on the 08 GS design team might have got my LED"S and had a more reliable bike anyway!!!! what do you ride? a (gold belly)

Possibly not as they were a cost option on my 650 twin that I got two weeks ago. From previous bikes, those in late September (ish) sem to be the next years spec or "MY" which I'm guessing means "Manufacturing Year".

Plus how often does the NEC get world premiers of new BM's? The only one I can think of in recent years (ie last 10) is the post LWR release.

Model complicaions

I assume that the system in the UK is similar to that in France. You start with the basic model and then the saleman runs through the options - ticking off those you fancy. He then adds them up and suggests that you order pack no "x" which contains your options ( possibly plus or minus one or two) but is cheaper than adding them all on separately. You agree and he looks at another list regarding availability - and then proposes delivery dates...such as (in my case) "if you add the chrome silencer to pack 1 (that you require) we can deliver in two weeks - otherwise with just pack 1 only it wil be eight weeks." No, sorry he cannot waive the extra 100€ for the chrome silencer so you agree and the bike turns up 10 days later. By that time you have no idea what is standard, what is optional and what each extra costs individually. Sttrangely, to me anyway, it all makes sense.

Aren't there 2 types of LED indicators - the optional ones that were in effect just inserts into housing that look the same as the normal indicators and the new '09 ones that are more slimline ?

I got my 1200gsa on 29th Sept. it has Small led indicators, the dealer said it was the first one he had seen. they were not specified they just came with it.

He said it was an 09 spec bike, I did not take much notice but I think he said that you could tell that by the chassis Number starting with a W.

They have changed the tank filler but not the shape of the tank so the old tank bag still fits. it is only Ordinary GSs which have a diferent shape tank.
