I need to order an Odessey battery this morning and I can not for the life of me remember what terminal posts my standard GS battery has

Do I need to get the right angle adjusters that Motor Works sell or can I connect directly to the battery using the screws supplied with the battery?

Cheers
Andres

Picture shows standard Odessy screw mount with right angle adjusters fitted.

If you are ordering it for a 1200 it comes with the angled adaptor

(well mine did from Nippy Normans)

And mine as well, but I ended up making another bracket for the positve side as It was all a bit tight for my liking.

I did away with the battery strap as well cos it was a real fiddle to fit, I made a spacer up and fitted it along with a longer bolt to the bottom bolt of the 'handbook bracket' the spacer rests on the top of the battery and prevents it moving:thumb

Perfect, what a quick response! Thanks for that guys :beerjug:

I had the dreaded 'sudden battery death' last night; went to the garage to say good night to my bikes  and noticed the alarm LED was on (at the base of the instrument housing), thing is I don't have an alarm

So, I tried starting the bike (already suspecting a dead battery) and lots of constant fuel pump priming/wizzing noises and clunks from the starter (solenoid) later nothing was happening.

Oh well, the battery has lasted 3 years and 30,000 miles - not brilliant but better than some :thumb

This might help...

Coincidentally enough, I just finished changing to an Odyssey PC535, and found the info here worth listening to

Odyssey for 12GS

I basically wound up doing exactly the same as he did, without shaving the ribs from the side of the Odyssey. Works a treat, so far (one day).

Just for info:

I ordered the battery from Motor Works yesterday and it arrived this morning :beerjug:

It comes with a complete fitting kit comprising of terminals, nuts/ bolts, s/s battery strap (to replace the WBM one) and a new rubber boot for the +ve terminal.
Also, very clear fitting instructions :thumb2

Post pictures of your completed install, please.

Just out of curiosity, I'm interested if the battery (PC535), and the mounting/cable routing are anything like the install in the link.
Once I started installing mine, it seemed like there was only one efficient way to go (as in the link), but I'm interested if there are any other solutions out there.

Cheers

Too many wires

Here you go, the battery went in very easily without the need to cut or alter anything (the replacement battery strap must be inserted with the battery, not after).

My problem is the amount of extra wires I have (fuel controller, Optimate, HIDs, GPS). I'm reasonably happy with the fit of the cables but to do a really good job I need to put a bit more work in, possibly one of those fuse box things to tidy stuff up :nenau
Cable ties are great aren't they!

Looks like with my battery fail no 2 in 2 weeks this morning I will be going down this route too in the next week or two.

What price are we looking at, and where is currently the best priced in your experience ?

TBH I didn't bother looking for the best price, just wanted to get sorted asap.

I paid £105 which included a new s/s strap, insulating boot for the +ve cable, right angled +ve post adaptor and next day delivery.

Agreed.... batteries to me are not bodge indefinitely type items.

Fix and replace .

A bit of apples and oranges...

On this side of the Atlantic, I got the battery from a US (I'm in Canada) distributor for $119 USD (listed retail is about $180 over here), plus about $35 shipping, taxes, duty, etc. It did not come with an additional strap, and the terminal post adapters seem to be oriented differently than Outtomunch's. No bother really, as with my installation I took them off.

Thanks for the follow through, guys, and good luck with the new battery.

Cheers

Just tried to fit one to my GSA12 and I could not get the battery leads to fit through the frame /battery space!!!! all seemed very tight, shaved off the fins but the power cables seem to fat. and the strap was a right cuffufle:eek:I'm pretty good with these sort of things but it seems you need to lengthen the leads and cut a £100 battery to bits to get it to fit .I must be a Cnut as my bikes not even out of warrenty :spitfire

Check out the link I included earlier. There are different ways to route the leads. The only way I could get mine to fit was to use the routing as in the link. Outtomunch was able to use a different routing, but I couldn't get mine to reach his way.

Motorworks rule !!

Ordered at 09.30 yesterday.... got it this morning first thing.

Adapted and all faffing pre-done to battery, and strap is much better than the BMW part.

Fitting could have taken 10 minutes , had I re-routed the Positive cable around the T-bar..... just behind the tank, and clipped the two little points with my side cutters before fitting it, then of course it did not quite fit, and removing was a real pain.

Once re-routed and sorted, perfect fit and off I went for a ride.

Remember.... re-route the Positive cable.
