Who can tell me what the finished surface is on these?

I need to rub out marks from a standstill drop and I am not sure how to build the surface back up again, or know what I might be painting over the top of.

I've found some matt silver spray piant in Halfords designed for engine manifolds that looks very similar in finish, but they recommend spraying it straight onto a bare casting.

Do I need to build up the engine covers with primer first? I know they are not going to get that hot, but judging from the instructions on the can, heat is part of the curing process for the paint.

As soon as I got my new GSA home I took those covers off and sprayed them with JP1 Satin Black engine spray - £8 on ebay. I never liked that silver colour as it matches nothing else on the bike. They look great now. Just rub them down with wet and dry, clean off any grease and then spray. Primer not required.:thumb2
