What is the best way to set 2 eared Oetiker clamps without the proper tool?

Can the ears be closed with a pair of nail pincers or are the edges too sharp for the job?

I know I can use some screw clamps but I have got some new 2 eared clamps to use when I change my QD's this weekend.

Cheers for any advice

Bin them.

They were only ever used to save a few pennies each x20 per bike x10000 bikes.

Worm drive clamps are far better....especially the fuel type ones for smaller diameter pipes.

If you really REALLY have to, you can use end cutting pliers quite successfully to clamp them up

Use a blunt(ish) pair of cutters to crimp the ears.

But - you need to ensure that the clips are the correct size for the tubing/ferrule.

Can't agree with Bill (above) - Oetiker clips are far better than worm-drives, except when you want adjustability.

Worm-drive clips (Jubilee) - there's a reason why they ain't allowed on oxy-acetylene installations :rob

Al :)

But the jubilee clamps are the things my local dealer sold me for my fuel filter replacement. And its apparently what they always use. By the way is there a torque setting for these?

Ok.

On the left is a proper fuel clamp....you can see how it tighhtens from BOTH ends evenly, and the force is far more evenly applied around the ube to clamp it onto the spigot or whatever.

On the right, a jubilee type worm drive.....not nearly as good as a fuel clamp, but still more convenient than an Oetiker clamp. (try dealing with an Oetiker clamp in the pissing down rain in the dark and you'll see exactly what I mean)
