I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, especially seeing who sponsors this section, but...

Has anyone got any experience of huskytrails

Apparently they are based in Oxfordshire. I and a few freinds are looking to possible book something with them as a starter.

I'd still like to know what the 12GSA is really capable of, but this seems like a cheaper starting point.

A guy I know who is an experianced trail rider did this earlier in the year only because he wanted to try out a TE250 with a view to buying one. The rideout is "a piece of piss" (his words not mine) and he got all his rideout money back when he bought a new TE from Husky Sport in Cheriton :thumb

I was talking with Andy at Premier Bike Didcot on Saturday and was trying to convince him to do guided trail tours on KTM's from the shop. From what he said this is something that he may in the future become involved with :clap

If you want to know what the GS is capable of then perhaps you should try the BMW off road course. I believe that you can choose to use either the 650 or 1200 GS for the training course, and pro rata they are not that much more expensive than the company you have found.

Cheers David, that was my initial intention, but lately I've manage to very successfully find out what the BMW is not capable of ;) I thought this might make for a cheaper, shorter introduction. Plus these guys are throwing all the kit and breakfast and lunch in for sub £200, less if I book a group of 7.

So far my BMW 12GSA has cost me circa £18k to find out its not up to marketing hype :o Actually the guy from World of BMW made me smile when he explained that people don't really take 12GSA off the road :D

Right guys, chance for you to pick up where others have dropped off

I'm looking to book a day with Husky Trails

The day we are aiming for is 2nd May - thats fixed and hopefully it will be run near Farringdon Oxfordshire

I currently have 2 spaces left. If you are interested I need a £50 deposit and the day should then cost £160-£170 including all the kit, breakfast and lunch.

Unfortunately their website is down at the moment which makes this a pretty poor advert but if you are interested and want to check them out then please dont hesitate to contact me.

Update

Finally managed to get six people together and to agree on a date, we all pitched up at the Husky Dealer in Cheriton, Hampshire around about 9 o'clock.

The only downside, from my perspective, as a result of moving the event from Farringdon to Cheriton was that they no longer included breakfast - this meant a slightly earlier start for me as I had to make 12 bacon rolls to avoid complaints later.

The dealer had plenty of gear available from helmets down to boots, with a group including one guy who'd not riden in the 15 year since passing his test up to one guys with 25 years trail riding experience some of us had some or all of our our gear and others had none, but within 15-20 minutes we got back down stairs fully kitted and ready to meet out guide for the day Gawin (sp)

We had a breif intro to the day followed by a breif intro to the bikes, explaining controls etc and then with no more questions we are off on a short 400 or 500 yard road section to our first green lane.

The day was split into two - 2-2.5 hours in the morning, a stop for lunch and beers (all paid for as part of the day) and then another 2-2.5 hours in the afternoon. It was excellent bikes where mostly '05 250s but we also had a 450 and an '07 250 and we had the chance to chop and change as much as we like during the day.

Gawin was a great guide and instructor, helping with various pointers throughout the day and leaving us enough space to work as much as we wanted out for ourselves.

We had a few spills during the day, but the worse I think was a nasty bit of brusing to a knee... as for me, the only time I came off embarasingly enough was trying to get back on the bike after the first break, damn those things are tall! As for the bikes they came off a little worse. With some of the higher speed spills some of the bikes lost panels and at least one had a twisted radiator, but all the bikes and kit was taken back by the dealer without comment or complaint. All in all it was a great day and excellent value for money.

While I'm pretty sure that a BM would manage some of the routes we took, I'm curtain that even if it wasnt dropped it would cost more than £166 to repair all the scratches and dings that it would have picked up taking the routes these husky's took.

If you are in or near the area I'd fully recommend these guys as its a great way to get a taster of trail riding and it really doesnt cost you any more than the £166 sign up fee (as long as there are six of you)
