Information on Off-Roading requested.

I'd love to do a bit of (very casual) off roading. Maybe in the style of the novice Enduros of yesteryear. Point to point as opposed to trailer-ing a motocrosser to a track. I've been told of Hare&Hound events .. which look fabulous but seem to require more of a narrow light-weight specific mount. I'd like something which is maybe a little more than 'green-laning' but not quite scrambling. Not necessarily for a 12 adv but certainly not beyond the parameters of a 660z tenere.

Any and all info greatfully received. This isn't for a club or a thousand other folks coming with me (i'll be alone and would like to be invited back so will be very well behaved ) .. more to see if it exists (either by organisation or a group of interested folks already doing similar etc) and where.

I appreciate that folks want to protect their practice tracks or off road secret places - but any help at all would be great.

Thanks

Mark

Do you have an appropriate bike available to you ?

You could try the 1200Adv on the Off-Road run in Kesh.:nenau

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I have a 12 Adv yes. I'm also on the lookout for something smaller to horse about on 'off road' but with a capability of getting me (by road) to suitable grounds - so probably a middle weight trail bike as opposed to a focused enduro etc. The Hafren etc are quite a distance away so generally that's a ferry trip and roadwork. Great fun but with obvious travelling limitations. Always on the look-out though for somewhere to explore so many thanks again.

Thanks folks

Sir would want to buy fairly bloody quickly so. :augie

:D

Great yokes those XChallenges,:thumb2 except for those feckin sidestand switches. :(

What about an R550gs Daithi?

:jes :jes

A very rare machine indeed, those 550GS's, might be too much for someone startin out, they're something like a one armed boxer, they can still pack a punch. :D

B.T.W. GPS was posted yesterday. :thumb2

Back on topic, Batman, come along to Kesh on the GS and you'll meet the Usual Suspects, you'll be out off-roadin every weekend after that.:JB

xchallenge and starting out

Guys,

Again thanks. I raced MCUI Honda 250 CR and TwinShock Challenge Maico 490 and Husq 250 for many years but I'm not getting back into that as i'm now old and in disrepair. I'm looking for fun but I'm not totally without experience. The xchallenge looks a great bike and I'm sure if I sold the ADV i'd have a lot of fun on some of the smaller more manageable stuff - however I don't really want to sell the GS Adv (as i enjoy blasting around the continent on it every year) and have been looking at Tenere XT600Z etc. I'd hoped for something like an XR 600/ 650 R but they are proving rare (and I'm told they have no electric start which may be a pain - injuries considered) even for Honda.

The search goes on .. but it's fun etc. Daithi - Thanks for that. I look forward to meeting 'the usual suspects'

Thanks again

Mark
