Norway - Bergen Day 1

Well got hear tonight about 5pm. Met the other lad Ollie OK at Tynemouth Ferry Terminal and the crossing was comfortable. The weather when we got to Bergen was diabolical! Ollie is fighting off a cold and I was feeling lazy and the idea of 3 hours on the road did not appeal so we found a cheap hotel and have checked in for the night. Looking for a timely start in the morning whatever the weather as Bergen has rainfall statistics double or more other parrts of Norway, so we will try to ride out of it.

There is a joke that goes like this - A man arrives in Bergen and after a couple of days continuous rain asks a boy "Does it always rain in Bergen?" The boy answered "I don't know. I 'm only thirteen"

Will post more plus pics as/when I can

Neil

PS
Dennis and his wife Alison are probably on the same boat as you to Bergen this weekend.

Saw Dennis and Alison at Tynemouth. They got off earlier than us at Stavanger.

Norway Day 2 - After Trollstiggen

Well - day 2 and we left Bergen about 9ish after a night sheltering in a hotel.
The weather is great - for fishes. The new wet weather gear is holding out well (Thanks Heine Gerrick) but we had a lot of weather between Bergen and Trollstiggen and another night in a hotel was necessary. Puts the costs up. Tomorrow the forecast is a bit better. We took four ferries today following the E39 road. I was relieved to find they seemed fast, cheap and frequent Every time we have stopped in the ferry queue somebody has come up and started chatting. One guy said "you should have been here last month the weather was much better". Thanks

There are still traces of snow at altitude and as we go north I expect we shall see more. Traffic is very sedate but we still covered 320 miles including coming down Trollstiggen through the cloud and rain - interesting! Tonight I tried reindeer which was very tasty. Might have a bit more Rudolf before we return.

Tomorrow we plan to follow the Atlantic Road over a couple of fairly spectacular bridges near Kristiansund then pass Trondheim and head north up the E6 and get as far up towards the Arctic Circle as we can. We should cross it the next day I think.

That's it for now - need to get some shut-eye. Will try and post some pics soon.
