Now that Her Ladyships PC has been upgraded to Windows XP she wants to upgrade the Office package and start using Outlook as oppossed to Outlook Express and link all with a soon to be acquired PDA.

Office 2003 looks ok but the difference in price re the "Student" package and the other packages is substantial, so is it worth the Full Monty? or will "student" fit the bill, up till now she has ahd a dodgy Office 2000 package which has now been removed after all sorts of problems.

The Student package is the Standard full office suite - difference is only in the price and that fact that one you "should" be in reasonably full-time studying or be a teacher etc. You can buy it and install it obviously without being in these groups. Technically if you dont fall into one of these groups you are breaking the law as much as if you used a ripped-off copy - but I suspect you will be fine.

What you don't get that you get in the Pro version is Access Database, a desktop publishing system (Publisher 2003) and some XML bits and pieces that no-one really needs.

My 5 year old is very happy with hisoffice suite - Excel, Powerpoint, Word and Outlook license - I acquired for him and he kindly lets me use!

The great thing is you get a license for up to 3 home machines (they all need to be in the same home!) Its a great deal - go for it!
