Chaps, I've just bought a 'new to me' 2011 GSA from a friend on Mull.

It's fair to say this is a 'minter' and was heavily maintained by the chap (a friend) who I bought it from.

5000 miles on the clock with its last service at Fairburns, Inverness in June this year when they put Mobil 1 15/50 fully synthetic oil in the engine.

Now, here in Yorkshire, our dealers put semi-synthetic into the engines and they won't be moved on any other arguments (yes, I know, there are many arguments about oil all over the place).

I think my question is do other dealers in the area use fully or semi- synthetic oil at change time?

Is this annoying you? Just tell the dealer what oil you want as the customer. If they won't just go elsewhere or change it yourself. I think there's far too much ado about oil. Is it even due a change? Jjh

I think the point I'm trying to make is why do different BMW dealers put entirely different oil in these bikes ...

Sorry I picked it up arseways. I imagine it's something to do with the profit margin. Jjh

Because BM issued a directive in 2005 (ISH) to use Fully synth then rescinded it again a couple of years after

When I was building the first 1200GS into N I from the crate I was handed the training manual by my foreman

Oil requirement for UK as recommended as 20W50

The dealers I was at was already in the schit as they ONLY had Shell 15W40 semi

Because it's Yorkshire and as we all know, they're tighter than a duck's arse down there. So they put the cheaper stuff in.... ;)

Oh and it's Harry Fairbairn which is really Arnold Clark, so although they might say it's got fully synth in it, it's probably got the cheapest recycled mineral oil you can get in there.....

Well at least us good Yorkshire folk wouldn't pull a stunt like that :D
