Oil cap's stuck - Help!

How the hell do I undo this thing??? It has an odd hexagonal top that none of my tools fit into - there's nothing in the tool case to help either. I have no nails left and an going mad. Please help!

about an old fashioned oil filter chain removal tool? fits around a lot of stuff

if you fancy a quick nip up to Bromley in Kent I've got that tool and will be glad to help.

assuming, that is , that you have some oil in your engine....
 
if you have the standard tool kit there is a hex ended tool which fits the oil filler cap.

It's about 3inches long, from memory it does something else like spark plug remover. Have another look..., there is also a round bar which fits through a hole at the other end to give you something to hold on and twist it...

If nothing then simply get a long screwdriver and lay it through two of the groves on the cap, that should be enough leverage to undo it.

Hi Richard - yes that tool is there, the problem is that the cap just bends when I turn the tool. I'll the again with some WD40 and a long screwdriver... :-)
 
Have you tried a jap spark plug removing tool. The outside of the tool is a snug fit in the hexagon.

Yes mate - the top of the cap just bends when any counter-clockwise pressure is applied. I think I need a new cap...
 
Yep, mines the same. tghe spark plug box spanner just bends the plastic. Just get a longish screwdriver with a shaft thin enough to fit into the slots, lie it through a couple of the slots and turn ,it will come off easily. Could be a market for a decent oil cap tool!!:rob
 
Now you know it was not a god idèa to put glue in the threads!
(Sorry, I couldn't resist...:P ).

The oilfiller cap on my CS got stuck too; I figured it was because the type of plastic and oil was not stable together, the oil damaged the threads.
It's a good idèa to move it often, so when it starts to be hard to move buy a new one BEFORE it get stuck.
Oh, and buy a new one before you damage the old one...

Yes, I know it's not identical oilfiller caps for the CS and the GS, but its the same problem and the same plastic&oil, so...

-What type of oil are you using on your bike?
It say ''no syntetic'' in the manual, but my local dealer are telling me to use syntetic/mineral mix.
-Could it be the plastic does not have any problem with mineral oil? I do not know, it's only an idèa I got this wery minute, and I do not believe it my self either.

...and there is not only one way to add oil on your bike... -put it upside-down and you'll find another oil cap! :augie A good idèa! ;)

When you do get it off,remember to only HAND tighten it back on.
Someones obviously used the tool to fasten it.

You really are as daft as your picture, No wonder you have a pan on your head, I mean how will you check the oil level properly if all the engine oil has gone down to the tank . also the stand will be up in the air and will not support the bike. unless of course you are Australia, then it could work.
Im not comming to Norway if they are all like you:o

Do be so hard on my neighbours (the norwegians). They do suffer a bit due to the thin mountain air they live in :augie

Regarding the oil filler cap. I got a nice aluminium one from wunderlich. It works very well and looks much better than the original.

-Do you know why the Norwegians are so good looking? The key word are ''preserving'' = it's so cold 75% of the year so we are like the meat in your freezer most of the time. No wonder we are slow in this time of the year! :eyesdown

All is ok - I managed to find a 'tool' to undo the cap - the screwdrivers wouldn't work as they were too straight to fit between the grooves - I ended up unscrewing and using the exhaust guard from the connecting pipe - it's slightly rounded and fits perfectly - it could almost have been made for the job...:thumb2

-Why didn't you just put the bike upside-down, remove the piston, shaft and stuff and unscrew it from the inside?:confused:
