Just got a stainless oil grill from Phil Reyolds. Looks great, takes a little care when fitting. I had to remove the screen, headlamps and release the beak mounting screws + indicators.

Open Beak Surgery part 2

Having lowered the beak, insert the grill from underneath. Take care not to catch the edges of the grill on anything - they are raser sharp!

Open Beak Surgery part 3

Once the grill is in place offer the beak back up to the mounting points and replace the bolts, headlight and screen. Stand back and admire:D

Its just come out of the bathroom, replaced by a large towel rail rad. So it is headed for the scrap skip at the dump tomorrow.

I new I should have stuck to close up shots:mad: Showing your garage is like bearing your sole:o

EASY FIT

If you take the screen, cover and lights out, then all you needed to do is fit the cover/grill between the beak on the right then lower to the left and slot it into the plastic bar at the back of the beak . I put a rubber edge piece on the top to stop any rattles,, then rebuild etc..

Glad your pleased with it Andy, i'll forgive you for calling me Phil.
Seemed to cause you more agro to fit than my two mates had with theirs, they did say it was tight to get in without disturbing the beak, but possible.

Come on people £21.50 inc p&p is a bargain yes/no.

Get it out on E-bay.....you`ll probably get more for it than you paid.

I tried to slot it in, but it would not fit, the edges of the grill are very sharp and managed to scratch the beak a little. So I decided it would be safer to release the Beak and insert it from underneath - no more damage to the top surfaces. Well worth the effort though! Still took less than an hour to do and I understand how the front end is put together now:D

Go out and buy one today - you know it makes sense!!!

nice alternative

Whilst sneaking around work after grit blasting some bike engine brackets. I came across a loverly staino cover off a pneumatic valve. All sort of polished and slotted it was. OK it wouldn't have "GS" on it but it would still be special- it would be free! I will investigate.

Andy, by the sharp bits I assume you mean the cutaway where it sit's on the lip of the beak?
Will deburr future ones, sorry about that.

There were no burrs on the edges, the nature of stainless is such that when you have an 90 degree angle on an edge, it invariably will mark anything that is softer than it, ie if the edge of the grill accidently drags accross the outer edges of the beak it will shave the surface. No fault or quality problems with the grill. Just a case of being carefull when inserting it - thats why I put it in from underneath when I realised that trying to squeeze it in from the top would mark the surface finish of the beak. I'm looking forward to showing it of at the weekend, am hoping M1FEZ (simon) will be out on the ride.

Think I want a set of widetail lights next:D

Just fitted this to my Adventure.

Just took off the screen, lights, and it popped straight in, without removing the beak. Looks great. Thanks Brian, top job.
I'm going to take this opportunity to run the bike without the screen for a week...see what it's like. I'm not particularly bothered by wind (yuk yuk), but I'm curious to see what it's like....

Just fitted mine.. wicked!

I have just fitted mine. It arrived in the post today (unlike postal votes around here). Followed Brians (reyno) instructions.

Took my five minutes. Was a bit apprehensive about taking the headlights out, but it was easier than i thought and all went back ok, without out problems..

The front of the bike now looks top.. cheers Brian....and thanks for the masking tape tip,, worked a treat.. no scratches..

Sadly even with tobinators,, i had to remove the screen to get it to fit, but you can mark your mouting positions with tipex..

Bike now got shinny bits.. :D
