541 mile run yesterday, some of it pretty rapid.

Got the bike out of the garage this morning to go to work and there is a small puddle of oil on the floor under the rear hub. With complete disregard for Health & Safety I stuck my finger in the puddle and sniffed, definitely Hypoid oil.

First thought is output seal and bearing shot again but not so, it appears to be leaking out of the gaiter.

Opened final drive level plug, still right up to overflowing with nice clean gear oil.

Opened up gearbox level plug and again still full to overflowing with nice clean gear oil.

Could one or the other (or both) just have been overfilled at service time and dumped the excess past the seal and out through the gaiter? If so is it likely that the relevent seal is now damaged and will need replacing?

Anything I can do apart from clean off the mess and monitor the repsective oil levels?

Mines done that now and then for over 20,000 miles! FD & gearbox levels don't seem to drop. Steptoe said that thay can sweat, gets hot, seal gets a bit flobbery, oil seeps past. A little oil goes a long way.

Thanks Eliminator, I'll clean it up and just keep an eye on the levels.

I'm certain that it was overfilled as despite the spillage the levels are still way up to the mark and even over.
