On my nt1100 I have an oil leak coming from left side front around a sensor. I’ve removed sensor and replaced the seal. I still have a leak. I’ve done some googling and it seems that the whole left hand side of the engine casing should be removed and resealed. Has anyone any experience of this? The nt 1100 engine is the same as the Africa twin. Thanks. JJH

My Africa twin started leaking oil round the stator wire at about 15-16,000 miles. I noticed it at 16,000 miles when I dropped the skid pan to clean it and it wasn't there when I changed the oil at 15,000 miles. It was only a slight leak with oil misting the front left of the engine and attracting dirt. Anyhow I did the quick and dirty repair outlined here

on the basis that if it was still leaking at 20,000 miles when I changed the oil again (I think 8,000 miles is too long :D) then I would take the cover off the bike and completely re-seal it. The only change from the proceedure outlined in the link above was that I pushed the black silicone gasket maker into the joint surrounding the stator wire grommet with a 2.5mm ball ended Allen key to ensure the silicone filled the groove. I left the silicone to cure for a few days and the bike has had another oil change at 20,000 miles and the leak has not (yet!) returned. I believe that Honda have issued a modified stator cover to dealers with a deeper tighter groove so if the bike is still under warranty or has been serviced by your Honda dealer it might be worth while giving them a shout.
