Hi all,

Merry Christmas and all that jazz.

I was putting my bike away in a friends garage for a few weeks while i am off for Christmas and decided to clean my bike and do a once over... My bike is 8 months old and has done 3k miles. I noticed that the oil tank was BONE DRY!!!! the dip stick (which is only 4-5 inches long??) had no oil on it at all?
Firstly and obviously I need oil! Any ideas why it has, what looks like NO oil at all? is this a common trait of the 650? And lastly what type/make of oil should i be using?

Hope you are having a great xmas season... Ride safe! lots of police pulling people over.

The most obvious reason for it not having oil in it is simply because you haven't put any in it:D
If your bike is 8mnths old and you've had it from new you should be checking the oil level virtually every time you go out on it and again when you put it away, sounds to me as if you've been lucky, could well have ended in tears.
As for which oil, just use the manufacturers recommended:thumb2

Just a thought
Is not the 650 dry sumped??
If so should it not be run for a few minutes BEFORE checking level to give time to pump oil from sump back to tank [ it does drain down there over a week or two]:D
Just like OLD Brit Bikes:rob:rob

IF the oil light has been going out when running there should be oil in it

Totally except its me being lazy!!!:augie But I still was surprised to see it was empty? and no lights on the display? Was just worried that it is something nasty!?

Prof I thought the way to check the oil on an old Brit bike was to look on the floor:D

Haa de Haa, haa, haaa
Thats why I turned to the Dark Side, BMW in 1972, I've never owned a proper British bike since. [ Ariel 3 does NOT!! repeat NOT !! count:blast]

Proff is right, Its not just a matter of topping up the oil onh these.. In fact its about the only thing I dont like about mine. Read the manual, it will explain exactly how you have to proceed to check the oil. Is easier to check the oil after you have been for a ride. If you dont do it properly you will risk overfilling it.. Whatever you do dont put olive's oil in it.... Ive met Olive and she is fearsome!!!!!!!!:rob

I wonder if it's the same one as I used to live with.
I called her Olive because she used it for sunbathing:eek:...she was truely fearsome!
