ok i have had a look through cant seem to find what i need. so may i ask a question P

I Guess some one will show me where on forum to find but hey I have a 2004 I think gs 1200r and
have found both the boots perished on the drive shaft but I have spent a while trying to find the part numbers or where to order from any help be greatly
appreciated as living on a small rock is very hard to get good help

and I am coming on a ride end the month to the uk and would like to try replace these before I come

I had both of mine replaced a couple of months ago, they were both very perished, done by the dealer though as I couldn't be arsed to take the swinging arm off the bike, I think the rubber gaiters cost around 70,quid

If you look at the drop down menus at top of the forum page you will find the online parts finder.
The forum search is pretty rubbish (IMO) but Google search with UKGSer ahead of your search string usually finds what you need.
 
Wow thanks guys found what my problem was i must had a bad spelling day and gator never came up
 
gazza i think i would be tempted to send to the gargae to get done but the bmw garage over here is a bit expensive i believe and wouldn't wanna know what it would cost
£89.per hour labour then parts on top and they reckon 3 hours labour

Remove rear wheel, undo the top torque nut and bolt holding the final drive up, unplug abs/speedo sensor and let the final drive drop down, remove drive shaft, remove old front swingarm gaitor from the side of the bike, refit new gaitor (fiddly but no big problem)... refit drive shaft, remove rear rear gaitor and fit new one, swing up final drive and fit torgue/paralever arm nut/bolt, refit abs/speedo sensor and refit rear wheel.

Doubt it'll take the time for a cup of tea to get cold. :D

I was lucky with mine, it was in for the rear wheel carrier thing to be replaced under the recall, they fitted the new boots for nothing, I just had to pay for them both. He did say they struggled to undo the lower shock bolt so I assumed that had to take the whole swinging arm out, looking at steptoes post that doesn't appear to be the case.
 
Might be worth getting it done at a dealer over here at the start of your trip.
 
Assuming that you are referring to a BMW dealer at £89 pounds per hour, the job time is dictated by factory. The dealers can vary the hourly rate but not the job times (charged in AWS which are 1/12 of an hour, ie 5 minutes, each).

My experiences with my local main agent dealer have been excellent and I'm very happy to continue using them.

Maybe a call to Steptoe and stop by his place in SW London to have the job done properly at the start of your trip is a way forward.
