Having spent an eyewatering sum to get a new gearbox installed by Maddocks, I now have the old one to find a use for. Anchor?

Maddocks seem to have done a good job, new box, new friction plate, new gear indicator switch. Bike clean and ready to roll.

Old box was noisy and I decided to change it before it blew up rather than add the cost of a breakdown or accident to the whole bill.

R1150 '02 with 47K kms. Only issue was howling noise, selection etc still ok. I suspect it needs new bearings incl. needle bearings, but probably ok otherwise.

Seducetions?

Old Box's

Bin,
im in a similar situation except i have 2 of them. I seem to recall that motorworks or motobins will rebuild them for a not too outrageous a fee:)
Someone here may be able to make a table lamp from them either:augie

I have a Triumph Spitfire 1500 gearbox under the bench. It was whining and jumping out of 2nd, so i replaced it. One of these i'll make a project of it and rebuild it.

If you can't derive any commercial value from it and you're genuinely stuck, why not donate it to someone who can cut away parts of the casing so it can be used as a training aid at Steptoe's maintenance days, for instance?

Hiya Bin.:thumb2
Just so people know are you selling it, giving it away or wondering if you should keep it ?

I'm sure someone with an 1150 would/should take it for parts or to get a reconditioned on in part exchange from MotoBins/MotorWorks ??

surely a hoarders dream, an old gearbox!

seriously though I'd bin it, old gearbox with squealing noise probably not going to be any use any time soon!

Completely fixable IMO too good to throw away, it could save someone with a snapped shaft etc.

dismantle it.........investigate it..........then fix it.......
howling box is only a worn bearing and will sound worse than what it actually is.:rob

Very happy with the job by Maddocks, gearbox and clutch are sweet. Bit annoyed the gearbox did not last better but hopefully that is all history now.

I bought a GS-911 from Biketec in Kildare to supplement my bag of tricks in Saudi where one can be ..eh.. remote. The recent cam-timing story convinced me to get one.

Fired it up on the 1150 here to see how it went. Checked the TPS and it was spot on. Jaysus, is'n't that great says I. 8 years old and still perfick.

Later, checked and realised that Maddocks must have adjusted it, the paint was gone off the little screws. Fair play.
