I know this is an oft repeated topic, but I'm doing Enduro Himalaya in 4 weeks and after seeing the video of last years trip (3 miles high and rising) yesterday I've decided I'd like to get something to suppliment my still photos.

I only want something fairly basic for on bike / helmet stuff as my still cameras will be perfectly OK for any off bike video I'll take.

I'm thinking of something like the Oregon Scientific ATC2k (£80 off eBay) or ATC3K (£100 from Oregon) or possibly getting an Acheos and bullet cam (from about £150). I don't really want to spend more than £200.

Can anyone help me make up my mind, or has anyone got anything to sell?

Bike bad, helmet good

I have the Oregon Scientific ATC2k, and its not bad, but don't think you can mount it to the bike, vibration makes it useless, and it often switches off anyway due to the vibrations, I've had replacement because I thought it was faulty but its not, its just crap

Mount it to your helmet tho and its a different matter, pretty good picture and works a treat

Thanks for the quick reply and good advice keiff.

I was thinking of mounting it on my helmet as from what I've seen that seems to give the least bouncing about, from your advice that also helps the units survive longer.

Just come back from trip to grande route alps and used the atc mounted on the bike and got some pretty good stuff out of it. I felt it was too big to helmet mount and could lead to alot of drag. No issues with vibrations at all.

One big thing it eats batteries and if the battery runs out mid shooting you lose the shot.

I mounted the atc on the indicator stalk using the handlebar bracket supplied with it. I have only used it on road but no problem with it cutting out.

Go Pro Hero 3

Bob ,

This is the device you want . There are some quirks with regards to how you use it that you have to overcome/get used to BUT its as small as they come, its compact, light, doesn't get affected by vibration and comes with half a dozen mounts including a helmet one ( if you buy the mnotorsports version) .

The actual camera is tiny but it comes inside a very strong perpsex case (very unlikely that the camera will ever get damaged no matter what envirnoment its in ) that is waterproof to about 50 mters ( might be a 100 ) so you can even take it diving or swimming I was very pleased with mine and can also thoroughly recommend these guys to buy it from ;

The guy I dealt with was Lee Cameron..........if you contact them tell him Rushy sent you.

If you PM me with your email address I will copy you in one a some mails where they actually asked for feedback on the device after I had bought it . It details some issues that I had and they confirmed these thoughts and give some solutions.

ATC 2K

after a lot of messing about, i sussed mine only had vibrations problems if not well isolated or touching another part of the Bike (edge of the screen on my R100GS).

battery life;
i rely on mine to last as long as the memory card will record for; 1 hour. but no more.

for what it costs and how easy it easy to fit and use - i think it's pretty good.
no messing with wires / connections / bullet cam+recorder.
just mount it and press record.... but you cant do that on the go with gloves on! - fiddly little controls.

basic, but good value for money i.m.o.

avoid the archos - they have some serious hard drive reliability issues and the after sales service leaves a lot to be desired - the help line is fine its just the repair centre thats in france has issues
