2001 R1150GS 99K Miles, Full Service History.

Only had the bike a few weeks.

After only a couple of days and 200miles the bike refused to start.

This happened after a 60mile trip, then left to stand for about 1-2hours.

The engine turns over as it should, you can hear the fuel pump gain pressure, you can hear a small backfire at times when cranking.

I had the tank off, checked as many connection as possible, injector out and small amount of fuel spraying, plug out and a spark (not great), hall sensors looked at. New plugs.

Could not work it out, it went back to the sellers mechanic, on the way back the recovery company dropped it, and it started first and everytime the mechanic tried it.

Another couple of hundred miles, and after a short trip of 5miles or so and then left for an hour or so the same has happened, turns over, fuel pump runs, small backfire. Will not start.

When running its runs great, no problems, rev counter does what it should(seem another post)

I have seen the post about the coil connections, next thing to check, have a set of sensors from Geno.

Seller offered a refund but I want the bike and it can be fixed, I hope!

Some suggestions of others problems and fixes.

Hi Mate,
hard to believe no one has replied since this morning.
Is my understanding correct that the bike would start after the recovery Co dropped it, but not before?
Possibly the wiring harness has broken wires within, where it passes round the headstock.
Try a wriggle test of the wires from the back of the ignition switch to the main harness.
Hope the recovery company are paying for any damaged caused

Mine has similar symptoms, although it's an 1100.

- How did you find out the Hall sensors were OK?

- Steptoe pointed me towards checking the coil next. He's got this strange knack of being right...

Worth a look I'd say.

Think its knowledge not Knack:D

I'd be checking Hall sensors. The fuel pump will work and you'll get a spark - of sorts - with one not working. I made myself a test rig with some wire and a secondhand led. Took about 15 minutes and found the fault straight away.

It Runs!!

Well today was spent making the tester here

http://www.ebbo.org/2av54.php

And checking the Hall Sensors, OH yes the top one was not working as it should.

Apart from the sensor being faulty, the wiring was damaged for about 3".

So as I got a pair of sensors off Geno the other day I fitted then, repaired the wiring.

Now the beast starts everytime.

Just hope my repairs work.

Thanks for all the replies.:thumb

Happy for now:bounce1
