Just sold my GSA and was about to advertise the panniers and topbox on the forum but I've left them locked and the bike is in a dealers 100 miles away. I realise it shouldn't be made public, so a PM will do.... how do I open the locks? I know they are not really secure but I'm no villain, so I can't pick locks.

Had the same thing happen to myself , only way without damage was a trip to the dealer where i p/x the bike took the panniers with me and a small screwdriver borrowed the key opened and removed the barrels job done

You Need the Key! End off!

Unless you want to Drill them all out!

Go to the dealers and maybe they will have an old key in the drawer the mech Ooops Sorry technician could recode the locks to for you ????

AFTER he has lifted the locks out with your old Key?

No, no, no!

....and I wonder why I'm moving away from BMW's

It's good that people can't open the luggage without the right key, it's just not good for you in your particular circumstances....

Not much help, but it's not a BMW problem :comfort

Might be worth calling a local locksmith company, see if they cant help.:nenau

That's true - I went to an automotove locksmith with a locked roofrack without a key that was on my car when I bought it . I could have drilled it off, but they cut a couple of keys for it for £30

I can open my panniers with the plastic butt plug that protects the keyhole, just give it wiggle and twist at the same time and bingo, OPEN.
Sure this was highlighted a few years ago as a security problem.
Really must change them for the newer type of plug which is much shorter and does not open the locks.:flag

IIRC that problem was resolved by dealers once it became public knowledge.

Just added a new Triumph Tiger 800 to my collection that came with a Triumph top box. Triumphs approach is to supply 3 lock tumblers with the bike and the dealer had fitted one in the top box.

The top box is heading for ebay, but I needed to get the tumber out first. After lots of false starts I made a lock pick from a 2mm allen key that was ground down at the end to make a tang to catch the end tumbler that holds the lock in.

It worked. I have not investigated if this would work on a BMW lock though.

I knew about that one too and have done it on a mate's adventure. If the OP's bike is old enough or hasn't had the fix he's sorted.
