Opie oils

hi just bought some engine, gearbox and final drive oil from opie oils got the 25/50 for engine ok but they recommended 75/90 for gearbox and final drive as recommended by Silkolene , not what BMW recommend anyone used this ? help would be appreciated

final drive is deefo the castrol saf-xo,but i have had conflicting advice re the gearbox,vines told me 08 gsa takes the 75/re90 as you say,but a bod on here with the official 08 manual says it states saf-xo in gearbox as well.

My dealer is even confused with what oil to put in the gearbox.

He has a castrol chart on his wall and gave me a mini version of the same.

The castrol chart and brochure states EPX 80W-90 in the gearbox. But his BMW computer programme states SAF XO.

When I advised him I had bought EPX to put in the gearbox he said he always puts SAF XO in.

When I pointed out the chart he said he had never noticed it was different.

He is going to check with BMW direct as to what is going on.

That would be me then. Yes, the Beemer manual for my '08 GSA states Castrol SAF-XO for Gearbox and Final Drive. I got my shipment from Opie this week so taken from the back of the bottle on the SAF-XO, the spec is "SAE 75W-90;API GL-5;Scania STO 1:0;MAN 342 Type S-1;ZF TE-ML 05B, 12B, 17B, 19C".

The blurp also states it's a fully synthetic final drive lubricant and that it's approved by BMW for use in rear axles without limited slip differential.

IMHO that means it does'nt have to Castrol as long as it meets SAE75-90 and is GL-5.

thanks for that,that spec oil is available widely and much cheaper than the castrol branded stuff,about 7 quid a pop if i remember rightly,btw how much is the casrol stuff from opie?

thanks for all the advice lads decided to go with bmw recommended and use epx 80/90 in the gearbox and saf-xo in final drive at least if it goes
tits up i can blame them
