Opinion on Triumph Rocket 111 please

Hi Billy (Nomad here M8)

mate of mines got one 05 plate 17000 miles no major folts is going rusty cromes crap lights crap even with 60/80 lamps in 160 tank range but he loves it and hes getting a new single headlight one it eats rear tyres and there not cheap

I have a Rocket on a 55 plate (well it is now French Registered) It is a terific bike, Big, turns heads, and can navigate twisties (When you have learnt to ride it that is) I have owned mine from New and regularly ride some intense twisties here and give some of the sports bike and GSers a surprise.

It does eat up rear tyres and yes they are expensive some Rocket riders (Myself inclded) run car tyres on the rear which can make it more interesting in cornering but again wen you can ride a bike you soon get used to it.

I jump from my Stelvio, and FJR to the Rocket no problem though it does take a couple of miles to get used to the feet positioning changes.

The 05, original ver is probably the gruntiest, the Classic is on a par but different running gear. Forget the Touring version it is 106BHP, I would also have a Roadster as the seating and leg positioning is more attuned with normal riding than the laidback cruiser stance of the earlier models.

Center of gravitiy make the RIII a very controlable and flickable ride. By far the best handeling cruiser type bike out there.

Gets the big :thumb from me :beerjug:

crikey thats a bounce back from a while ago:D:D

i was working there on a fookin great house for about six months end of last year into this year,

some great roads around there so i decided to leave my kit on site and commute , trouble was it was taking me longer to get home because i kept finding better twistys and being led further afield :beerjug:

yeah soz...i don't always frequent this site...

I've seen quite a few R3's with that mod .... apparently (according to the riders) it makes no real difference to the handling and the tyre lasts longer

Having a road test on another one this Saturday:blast:D:D

Can't get the itch to go away:blast

How did the demo go then Si,do tell:D

Bloody disaster really mate!

Took the trusty GSA in for a valuation against it after washing it for the first time in 2 years:blast Really enjoyed the ride in and so any thoughts of a part ex were looking unlikely as I don't think I could part with her in all honesty.
Any road, I digress. I was shown to an '09 plate Rocket 3 Classic that after a 10 second run down of the controls refused to start due to a sticking starter motor:rolleyes: Some heaving it around in gear saw it "burst" into life after a while, also after swearing and fecking around with the factory fit immobilizer. (it apparently had just been serviced!)
I was assured that it had half to three quarters of a tank of fuel on board, and I had done a mile and a half before the fuel light came on:blast so instead of cruising round the Cotswolds I headed home to drop some juice in it.(Fuel pump on the farm = cheaper:thumb)

Its a big heavy beast, but feck me it'll pull your arms out of their sockets when accelerating! It also needs a serious bar push to get it to go round corners, I've never ridden anything that wanted to go in a straight line quite so much:eek:
Got home, put some juice in and prepared to set off on a bimble again; immobilizer off, ignition on (no its not, bloody thing:blast)
Ignition would not come on at all. Performance Triumph at Cheltenham to their credit (or perhaps because I left them no choice) brought the trusty GSA back in a van and picked up the Rocket. Apparently an immobilizer/ignition interface problem.

As I was reluctant to part with the BM to start with, I was convinced I wasn't going to after that!
