Optimate 3

Has anyone else had an issue with their Optimate 3? I have had mine for around 18 months (essential with a GS I reckon) and it now suddenly doesn't show the power on LED, or the fully charged and correct polarity ones. The amber charging one does still work though and it does seem to be charging the battery.

I've got two. One of them only shows the fully charged (green) LED. Still seems to work ok.

Thanks Chasr. I am starting to think mine's the same. Used it over the weekend and the charging light worked plus the fully charged (ok) light, but no others. As you say though, seems to work ok.

How do you connect the optimate?

I have just ordered a new optimate for my soon-to-arrive GSA but was initially considering the canbus friendly BMW charger but decided to buy another optimate after reading this recent thread.... http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99184

Euroenduro, I bought the flyleads that go to a waterproof connector. The flyleads are connected to the battery terminals and the waterproof connector sits just under and alongside the seat, so that I can just plug the charger in with the bike in the garage.

rob, yep that is exactly the way I was planning to install the optimate, mainly on the basis that people are not having any problems with the canbus blocking (as per previous threads) when they have connected directly to the battery terminals...perhaps it is just a case of calling the tech department at Accumen and getting their take on the problem. I'm a couple of weeks away from fitting mine but will let you know if I have any similar probs.

Just to add to that I've got one and looked into it the other day it was full of water and had started rotting the pins great eg

Thanks Patboy, I'll take a look at mine. I wonder if that is what has caused the power and polarity lights on the charger to go out?!

Patboy, had a look at the waterproof connector on mine and all is ok. The inside of the connector is dry and the pins look fine.
