Hi all, just had my dakar delivered and would like to know the best way of connecting an Optimate. I believe that if I got the BMW on-board socket (which I could use to power a sat-nav in the future) I could connect the Optimate into it for charging. Is this correct? And would I need any other leads from Optimate?

You are 60% correct. All you will need to connect the optimate through the aux socket is to make a lead that has the optimate socket on the one side and the so called marine or hella plug on the other. very easy to make. you can get the hella plug fron hein gericke for about £3. I didi this mod with my oximiser. works a treat :thumb

Markblox,

I'm not sure about this, but check for an Optimate compatible socket on some trailing wiring behind the right side faux tank cover near the steering head (behind where the airbox inlet is). You don't need to tack anything off to get at it, just have a look in the gap with a torch.

I seem to remember carcher2k telling me that is what the socket was for.

would that not be an optimate lead fitted by carcher2k, because when i fitted mine that seemed to be the best place to fit it for easy axcess and also the lead is not very long

Got a socket

I went to check and luckily the bike has the accessory socket fitted. Spoke to the dealer today and he said he would send me down a BMW plug which I can fit to the Optimate. Is that sorted now?

Pondy, indeed that socket is for an optimate, but they aren't standard fitment on the bike, someone must've liked you when you ordered your bike ;)

optimate do a lead that plugs into the charger and into the aux socket on the bike, £4-£5. Saves any cutting/shutting.

Carcher2k,

Yea, My bike was waylaid and Cooper Reading had to find me a replacement steed. It must have had the socket fitted before delivery. :thumb PB

You can buy an adaptor lead from Optimate, the part number is AMDCPLUG, got mine from Hein Gerrike for a £10 ish.

Hope it helps.

Seems you have all the bits. Remember when you come to add the plug, that the center of the plug is positive. Enjoy
