I'm sure i have read this before, but i have just got a GS and want to know if i can wire an Optimate 3 charger direct onto the battery like i did on my old bike?
i've read lots of articles about GS batteries, can bus and BMW charger.
Please help this new boy! :beerjug:

Yes you can indeed use the optimate as long as it's directed direct to the battery rather than through the auxilary socket. :thumb

Welocme to the world of the Tossers! :thumb

And for further confirmation (if you need it) I asked my dealer this question - particularly about using the Optimate's permanent connection lead - and they said no problem, go ahead. :thumb

I only asked them 'cos I'd read some stuff on here about the battery needing to be disconnected before charging with anything other than BMW's own (expensive) gizmo.

Not to mention the same thing being said in the Manual. But who reads that, nowadays?

Well, mate, when I posted on here once before about following the manual with regard to when you should check the oil level - i.e. only after a "lengthy trip" (p86) - I got criticised by Tossers for suggesting it! :nenau

It seems no matter what you post on here, you have to be prepared for some Tosser criticising you, either directly or by implication. :D

I won't criticise you for reading the manual and learning about your bike. It's essential with modern electronics to know what to do and the only way to do this is to learn.
Some people think that it's a boasting point to have not read the manual - the rationale for this has always escaped me.
