I had a new battery fitted in March 2004 and was told to always use the optimate all the time. The bike is a 2003 standard GS. At the present time I have both wheels removed in order to get new tyres fitted. I plugged the bike in after removing the wheels and this morning the optimate was showing orange and not green. I know it is a long shot but would having the wheels off effect it in any way. The bike has the integral ABS. Thanks for any help you can give, Ricky.:(

don't worry

go look at it again in an hour and it will be showing green all the way. Every time you remove the optimate it goes through a 20-40min re appraisal sequence when you plug it back in but removing the wheels will not affect the battery, but it will affect the handling.

if you have battery on charge all the time, check electrolite levels more frequently than normal. they have a habit of dropping faster even with a trickle charger.
