Can anyone explain why my optimate 3 is always showing the red de-sulphate light when I connect it to my bike? Never anything else.

I have lost the instructions.....

Any help would be appreciated

Silly but, have you unplugged it, from the wall, then re-fitt it?
that resets it.

Sam as far as I'm aware, each time you connect the Optimate it should be 'off' and then switched on after connection, it then carries out a check of the battery condition and starts the conditioning sequence depending on what state it judges the battery to be in. Whenever I reconnect mine it invariably lights up the green power light and the orange light, but I have seen the red light 'on' for short periods of time when the battery has been connected and I haven't used the bike for a few days.

Are the Optimate connector pins clean and have you tried it on another battery?.

What Dickieboy said....
My first optimate i chucked in the bin because of the same thing, went out and bought another and RTFM this time, in between me going out and getting back the bin men had been:augie never had a ploblem if turned off when connected then switch on...

Now that I didn't know, note to self must keep instruction booklet next time....

Strange you should say that, I sprayed them with WD40 and it seems to be working better. The only thing is that the connection is very loose and when you wiggle it, it sends the optimate onto the red de-sulphate light and if you wiggle it again, it sends it onto the orange charge light.

Can I change the connectors or is it better to try fitting a lead to the accessory socket?

On the GS i plug the Optimate in via the accessory socket in the starter cover.Previously i have had problems with corroding pins on other bikes that have had exposed fly-leads fitted.
