Optimates & AGM Batteries

Hi Guys,

I'm just about to change the OE battery on my 04/04 1200GS after a weekend of clicking and then just starting.

I have read various threads on here as to what chargers will and will not look after an AGM battery, due to them requiring at least 13.5V.

I can confirm after investigation and talking to Tec-Mate technical team, that Optimates from the Optimate II onwards have a float current of 13.6V and are perfectly okay to look after you WestCo or Odyssey battery. :thumb2

I would have thought that Odyssey were pushing the CTEK purely as a money maker and that was the kit they decided to push. :augie

ADVICE PLEASE: What's better the Odyssey or WestCo? There's a hell of a price difference £88 (+P&P) vs £47.25 (+P&P), is the Odyssey really worth that much more??:nenau

Cheers Stu

From what I can tell, the main difference between the Optimate and the C-Tek is the ability to charge a deeply discharged AGM battery. As long as you look after the battery and only rely on the Optimate for topping up, you'll be fine. It's been fine for me for the last 6 months anyway :aidan
