Having just discovered the hard way what a tough bike a GS is a couple of questions.

From the picture you can see what a fine job the engine bars did, however they are now bent. Can I knock them back into shape with a hammer or will they have to be replaced?

Is there any where else that less obvious damage dcould be?

Heat is your friend....that, a large lump of 2be4 and a soggy towel to protect the bits you don't want heated.

If you bash them cold, the percussion waves will probably crack the bars at the mounting points....heat them up as much as you dare and lever/cajole them back into shape with the 2x4/scaffold/whatever comes to hand and Robert's your father's brother.

Congratulations on acquiring some real 'character' for your steed......it's not damage, it's a mark of pride and badge of respect ;) ;) :D

PS enlist the help of others.....bending tubes can end in bikes on their sides on your boot....DAMHIK  ;)

Cherry red is the colour to go for. I'd be tempted to take them off first and do the job using a vice. It might take two or three goes to get them right but you'll save yourself a lot of trouble at your next oil change!

If a job's worth doing ..............

Good luck.
