Working out side yesterday morning splitting a few logs, the weather improved sun came out so I decided to get the S10 out for a couple of hours, cant remember the last time I rode a bike in January, frosts due later this week so I would think we'll see the salt being sprayed around, that means my bikes will stay in the garage for the next few weeks till spring arrives, hopefully be back on the road by 1st March.

Had a great ride over to H's yesterday although there were some big puddles in places. Had to use the heated grips but still wearing summer gloves.

I wonder what will happen to the stockpiled heaps of salt that the councils did not get to spread on our roads. I always got the impression that they would chuck it on the roads at the slightest excuse because it would go off and if they didn't use as much this year they wouldn't be allowed so much next year.

As of next Monday the S10 will be my commuting tool....only a 28 mile round trip ,it's had plenty of ACF50 applied, so we'll see how it does with the salt ;)

Hi Bryn
I have got myself 5ltr of ACF50 and a small spray applicator bottle, happy with applying it around the engine frontal area and both sides as far back as the swing arm pivot but not sure about how best to treat the wheels without contaminating the discs and pads, what's you M O when applying the stuff.

I've soaked a rag in ACF and rubbed it around the rims, just tried to get it everywhere apart from the discs...being a serial bike cleaner I've got to re-calbrate my head to just hose it down during the week rather than getting the soapy water out ..I've also got the neat ACF that comes with the applcator spray bottle...I don't think it works as good as the aerosol as it seems to come out as a jet rather than a fine spray...so ends up in clumps running down whatever you aim at...

I stuff the The Sunday Times (any newspaper will do) all around the brake disks and callipers before spraying the whole bike from the waist down liberally with FS365, it washes off the tyres with plain old water. I then use a paint brush to put ACF50 onto all the sensitive areas.

Paint it on with a brush, you only need a smear. If spraying cover the discs and callipers with plastic bags, roll them shut and use pegs to keep them secure. Most people put too much on and it drips or runs off, especially on the wheels were it's all too easy to have it run onto the tyres. I always spray the stuff under the tank from every angle possible as you can guarantee that salt road spray will find any and every unprotected spot.

P.S. Funny wee houses you Norfolkers live in judging by that first image.

Good tip about the brush...never one to let the grass grow under my feet...just used a dessert spoon full and a brush and its done everywhere I can see to get to including the wheels :thumb2

Funny how if it's not your bike you don't worry about it...years of winter use on the firms FJR 1300 and all that got was a jet wash at the end of the shift...and it didn't fall to bits.

Its been there for 80 odd years we're still saving up for the doors and windows, bit draughty in there.

Yep. I was up at H's yesterday, (after salmonella-risk at Super Sausage). Amazing how main spotless bikes there were. How do peops get them there so clean?
