There is a lot of interest in polar exploration in Kerry schools due to the great contribution of Tom Crean.
My daughter teaches in a local school & as I have an interest in the heroic age of polar exploration & have been to the Antartic & South Georgia, she asked me to give the kids some background information.

I outlined the isolation that the early exolorers experienced in that there was no means of communication with the rest of the world & showed some historical photos to reinforce the sence of isolation including the attached.

As I went along I asked questions but when this picture was shown a wee kid responded to an anticipated question.
