Cant get Outlook to launch.

Press the icon, thinks for five secons and then ....nothing.

I haven´t changed anything since setting it up.

Bit of a bitch as all me data is in there. Suppopse I can reload my palm software and get the data back, but I was hoping to transfer my mails to gmail....

any clues where I have :GS:GS:GS:GSed up?

Without seeing it its hard to say Bob. Whatever happens you won't lose your data as its all in a file called *.pst if I remeber properly. Can't look now as I am at a client who does not use outlook.

You tell me though please why do you want to use GMAIL instead. Opening up your emails for GMAIL to look at sounds a bit dodgy to me. But to be honest I have not been reading up on it and don't really know much about it.

Must be contagious cos mine did it on Sunday. I had just finished a bit of housekeeping and dumping old emails. Went and had me dinner and when I came back it just refused to launch. Always do a restart before looking for anything nasty and it was fine when the machine came back up. Worrying though as all I had done was very basic clean up.

PST File

Morning Guys,

First thing to do,

Make a copy of your *.PST file or files and your *.ost file if you want to keep your settings.

Check the short cut hasn't got its knickers in a mess by going the

start, all programs route and trying to start Outlook that way

If no luck go control panel, add or remove programms, find Office and choose add or remove, you might get a option to repair (depending of version) Outlook or just remove and add again.

Hope this helps

Graham

Depending on the version of outlook try the following

Start
Run
outlook /Safe

Others you may like to try are

/CleanFreeBusy
/CleanReminders
/CleanViews
/ResetOutlookBar

presumably you've done a reboot?

sometimes when progs won't start it's cos they did not shut down properly & are still actually running.

outlook seems very prone to not shutting down properly IMO.

Microsnot do an 'inbox repair tool' on their website, which does repair mangled .pst files.

But, as always, back the file up before trying.

Mozilla Thunderbird with the calendar option seems better. As well as being free. It will import all the data from .pst files as well. What more could anyone want (unless they want to use share folders etc on exchange)

cheers smarty pants!

the /safe thing seemd to do the trick!

:beerjug:

The /safe thing basically just loads outlook without any of the add-ins, sounds like you have a corrupt add in.

Guess who's had to do this to certain computers in the past....
