I need some new tyres for me GS and following the long running threads on here was planning on moving from the currently fitted Contis to Metzeler Tourance.

So, there I am t'other day talking to my local tyre guru about some tyres I need for the c*r when I mentioned the Metzelers and asked for a quote. I was informed by my man that he recently attended a meeting with the manufacturer at which they announced to the gathered throng of distributors, fitters and retailers that as BMW owners allegedly have more money than other people and they liked their tyres, they were sticking the price up cos we could afford to pay more for them. Which they did the following day or thereabouts. Nice eh? Cheeky b*stards.

My man left the meeting there and then disgusted with this attitude.

Now, I am all for free markets but that also means if I think someone is taking the p*ss, my money will be getting spent with their competition.

Sounds as though they know their Market fairly well!!

And because it's a free market you can get a lovely pair of Contis or even Bridgestones for less.

Tourance

Just fitted the beast with a new set of Metzeler Tourances on Saturday. Rode bike in then out 30 minutes later......Cost me £169.00 fitted and balanced etc etc. Didnt even think about the competition from other makes.

I thought a good deal at that price from A1 Tyres near Dromore Co.Down:augie

I know for a fact, that continental slapped £28+vat on a pair of TK80s(to the importers,no less) because Mbw owners wanted the "rugged look" for the GS,and were willing to pay for it.

You look back at how much I used to do a pack of three for,£150 for two backs and a front I think, and look at the price of them now.Tourances can be had for £133 a pair now,and TKs are about £185.

I think if everyone stopped using them for a while,Mr continental would have to take note, and drop the price a bit. We're not talking a petrol giant here that we can have no effect on,we're talking about a tyre company who think we can be held to ransom, and I bet you a pound to a pinch of shite that we are their main customers in europe.

What say you about that.

And as a matter of interest,I've changed to Heidenaus just because of the price.

Thats interesting - I recently paid just under £200 for a pair of Battlewings (one was loose, the other was on the bike)
The local chap in Aberdeen doesnt stock Battlewings, but does have Tourances as he said they were the most popular and best value.

I forgot to ask how much a pair of Tourances would be......
