OK I'll put my hand up, I am a tit:blast

I topped up the oil on my 12GSA and put too much in:(

It's only a bit too much but the whole of the sight glass is covered by oil when the bike is upright on the centre stand

If I tip the bike a fraction over to the right the oil immediately drops down into sight and within the red circle.

Is this something I need to worry about on a GS12? I know that on some bikes the oil level is critical and over filling can lead to blown oil seals.

Therefore should I:

a) drop the sump plug and drain some out
b) ignore it..........it will use that much oil in a week or so
c) stop being so anal its only a bike

answers on a post card please:nenau

Take the N/S rocker cover off ...

... and lean it over, once sufficient has dribbled out, put the cover back on :nenau

Don't worry about it, it won't do any harm. On the 1150 it blows into the airbox if over filled alot. It will burn it of after a few miles :thumb2

You can lean the bike over and pull some oil out of the filler with a syringe.

Option b).

Whenever my bike has been to the BMW dealer for servicing it always comes back slightly overfilled - ie no sight line visible until the bike is tilted slightly to the right.

Yep, mine's always like that just after a service.

so option c:)

park it on its side stand over a few days use. Oil will apparently drain into LH cylinder when stationary and burn off on start up.

Mine was the same when I picked mine up & I thought it was overfilled.

I could smell a burning odour for a few hundred miles & thought it may have been the valet preperation work they did on the engine but it could have been an oil smell.

It's fine now. Smell gone & oil is a few mm below the top of the sight glass.

Shouldnt worry about it but I want to know how you tilt the bike over to the right whilst still being able to see the sight glass.......

Same experience as Yoda, mine has been overfilled by BWM after a service and no harm done.

Ride and ignore it.
