As mentioned in previous threads, I'm heading down to Morocco in May. While I'm down there one of the things I'd like to do is spend the night in the desert way off the beaten path.

A couple of questions:

1) I'll be on a fully-loaded GSA and for a variety of reasons am thinking that I should leave the GSA behind and go with some kind of outfitter to do this, either on a small bike, 4x4, or camel? I guess I could just camp on the side of one of the pistes with my GSA, but wanted to get further out than that and would also prefer not to bring camping gear along if I'm only going to use it for a couple of nights (generally plan to stay in cheap hotels).

2) Can anyone recommend whether it might be more interesting to do this kind of thing near erg chebbi, zagora, or elsewhere?

Any comments welcome...

Use your panniers to create a barrier between you and the side of your tent to prevent yourself being stabbed in the kidneys whilst sleeping.

I've heard that they cut out your kidneys with rusty US license plates and sell them in Marrakech, isn't that right?

Tim, thanks for the tip about erg chebbi, I didn't realize it was such a zoo. I'll definitely be dropping by Bikers Home in Ouarzazate but didn't realize that it is also a good area for sometihng like this.

Hello,
It is great to do in the souther piste Merzouga Zagoura. The quiteness in Remlia area is amazing. You can drop in to Aghbalou Ramlia , and you can also contact roughtours companay which can arrange things for you. I think ourzazate is a far place to the desert,so you can leave the bike in Hassi Labiad or Merzouga centre then use the 4x4.All the best
