Has anyone any experience of using Oxford soft luggage. There are some good deals on Ebay at present......use a Givi topbox to commute with and want some panniers for touring to WSB / MotoGP rounds so hard luggage seems a bit extreme for the limited usage. Would welcome your views.

I had some oxford softies on my kawasaki years ago, they used to lift a bit at about 120,but once over 135 they were pretty good all the way up to a decent speed.:rolleyes:Oh yes,and they make a really big mess when they go into the back wheel

I've used some for years on my old 'bird (up until I got the 12 with system panniers). In many ways I prefer the Oxfords - they could take more stuff, lighter and squash down small when you want them off the bike. Also, like Vern I found they were very stable at speed (150/160 for for a for a few days across Germany). The downside, like most soft luggage is security and waterproofness (my raincovers got ahem 'ripped off' during the Europe trip:eek: :D :D.)

They are so well made we used ours as mini-suitcases when we went on a package trip to Spain once and they went through baggage handling unmarked.

Just had a look on eBay and ours are the Sports type, the other two are less robust if I remember correctly.

they are a great bit of kit, i have the oxford lifetime luggage, as the others said, good up to 150+, when expanded they hold loads of kit, not used em on the adventure though because i got the bm panniers and givi top box.

Agree with what's been said - I had some Oxford expaning soft panniers for years, they were great. I gave them to my brother last year when I bought my GS with hard luggage.

The only downside of soft luggage I think is the lack of security.

Security is the only advantage in my view, and given the cost difference ..... it does not bear thinking about. This from someone who has just shelled out for a set of Al Jesse bags!

I see Ted Simon also abandoned hard luggage for soft on his last trip.

Ah well, I am sure someone will come in with more and better reasons for hard boxes?
