I was on this ferry this evening to Larne (as a car assenger). A very rough crossing. There was about a dozen or so bikes of various makes travelling on it including an 1150GS. As we docked in Larne all bike owners were called to customer service. Apparently all but one of the bikes had fallen over during the crossing. Same angry bike owners I'm sure. There didn't seem to be much assistance from the deck crew as we were getting off and as many of the owners were checking the damage to their bikes.

Anyone from here?

You're a brave man Paul.

Looking outside last night it was scary here. Think I'd have opted for a BnB, even if I'd been there with my car!

Thats the thing with P&O in my experience they always have a go when STENA Says No!!

Which was the all but one? Can't have been the GS surely
.....
Iwent across for the North west a few weeks ago and the skipper came on "we've deployed the stabiliser to give you a more comfortable ride", just as two old birds went flying across the floor :barf

I think there was a Hayabusa and also what looked very much like a Kawasaki H2R, the guy looked really miffed !!

What's the score here, is the ferry company liable?

Not sure, but I always follow their directions, but never secure the bike myself. I make sure they do it, therefore they are liable I hope!

I recall a few years ago the Isle of Mann ferry docked with dozens of bikes on their sides, not sure how it was resolved.

My worst crossing was Newcastle to Ijmuiden overnighter a while back. we were all convinced there'd be loads of damaged bikes.
But the crew had been on the vehicle deck and trebled the number of securing straps during the night. No damage at all.

I was on the Cairnryan to Belfast earlier this afternoon and it was like a duck pond...met some other Dublin based bikers, one on a nice new 2015 Adventurer, and had a good auld natter before boarding. It really was very smooth...

Spoke to a mate, who's mate was on it with his RT, he had a few scrapes, minor stuff.

He said all but one (the GS) had fallen over, a Kwak had some serious faring damage too!

It was big Al on the RT, turns out his pannier was smashed too

He sent me a video of the crossing!!!! Jees wept it looked rough mate

The Kwak went on its side and another bike fell on to it....

P&O have admitted liability according to Al

I'm usually in bed in the truck down on the car decks and miss all the fun. Don't even notice it most of the time. :sleep
