Pairing a Cardo Scala with a new phone

I've had the Cardo for a year and it's been brilliant, but I've just changed phones and I can't figure out how to pair it with the new one.

The manual says to hold down the Ctrl (on/off) key while it's powered off until the light starts flashing blue/red in quick succession, but holding it down only turns the damn thing on, or if it's on, back off again
It doesn't seem to matter how long I hold it or anything. Does anyone know what the trick is ? It's the basic single rider FM model btw.

I have the Teamset with no radio but you do end up holding the power switch down for ages and ages until it goes a bit mad. sadly my blackberry has the attention span of a gnat and times out before the Scala gets to pairing mode. Patience worked in the end.

Got it eventually with the help of another forum. My manual lies ! I had to have it attached to the headset, and already turned on.
