Panner refurb

My pannier lids are looking pretty battered and scratched and I would like to refurb them and possibily have then colour match painted. Anybody out there ever had this done or know any firms that could do this?

Also I see that some BMW panniers have some sort of protective pads (kick pads?) on the front - are these aftermarket bits I can buy and if so where from?

It is surprising what frequent application of that black plastic spray stuff can do for you - bumper shine or whatever it is called. My scruffy panniers look the mutts nutts for at least a couple of weeks when they have been sprayed. Plus it only takes a couple of minutes to apply.

Flexible Filler

I damaged one of mine on a post in a car park so I got some Plastic Padding Elastic, this is marveous stuff and specifically for ABS parts.

Remove the Lids by drilling out the rivets then order some stainless steel allen hex bolts 4mm x 25 mm long and nyloc nuts and washers from Stigs Fasteners in Darlington http://www.a2-stainless.com/, very cheap and he only charges £1.00 for postage.

Then fill the damaged areas and scratches leaving a little proud and when dry rub down with WET wet & dry paper to a 600 grade finish then either take the lids to a paint sprayer or do them yourself in the colour of your choice, making sure the paint is laquered.

I replaced all the rivets on my panniers and painted them Marakesh Red, its a black bike and it gives the bike a touch of colour, you can get any paint colour matched at an auto paint supplier. I paid £4.60 for 250ml and used 2/3rds of it.

To get the badges off just warm them up gently with a hair drier or heat gun on low and gently lever them off, keep the nozzle a foot away from the badges.

There you go rebuild 'em, job done !!
