Down and left a bit.
Ok so i just got the 1150 GSA BMW Touring panniers through the post from Rog in the for sale section. Excellent condition and very happy with them apart from the small issue of them not fitting.

They are fitted as you all know by two upper hooks and a locator on the rear footpeg.

Here are some pics.

With the front upper hook and the footpeg locator in place. You can see the rear upper hook is sitting well above the bracket. Its not touching the exhaust either.

I took the footpeg off and put the pannier on the rack, holding the rear locater into the bottom slot... You can see how much my bolts are out..

PLEASE HELP !!!!

Why are they not fitting ??? They came off a GSA.. Are there different footpeg lengths ??? ... Is there a special way they need to be put on the bike perhaps ???? Am i just stupid ???

I really want them to fit...

Now !!!! ...:aidan

After edit...

I added another pic from motorworks and this shows the 1150gs rear footpeg. Apart from a possible difference in zoom levels from the image, i think its the same size...

Is it possible you have mounted the brackets wrong, ie offside on the nearside, I not sure that that is even possible but someone will be along who may know.

It would also help if you stand a bit further away, and take a front/back/side view, and also one without the panniers on.

Dave,
sorry to hear aout the problem fitting them -can't understand the problem from the photos ....I can only think that either rails are upside down, or on the wrong sides ?
And yes, you have to have BOTH handles up fit them to mount on the rail, and the inner handle then closes down and locks them to the rail. They are a fairly tight fit, deliberately, so be firm with them .
As suggested, post some pics from a little further back, plus a couple of the rails in situ ...they've gotta fit, ...they're fresh of my 1150 GSA !!

Good luck ...can't be too difficult ?

I've fitted plastic / tin panniers to a GSA and the only thing that need changing over apart from the upper mounts was the footpegs. The pillion footrest mounts are different for the plastic or tin boxes and IIRC the GSA comes with the tin box footrests and the GS with the plastic box footrests IYSWIM. Is that any help :nenau

I dont thinkso, i am not sure that it is possible. Its a two bolt one end and one bolt tother end combo.

is that bracket fitted correctly? surely it should be level, and the rail to engage the pannier vertical and parallel to the pannier? that would also increase the distance from rail to footrest :nenau

When you bought the pannier frames did you get the small plastic spacers that push fit into the pannier frame ??

Hi David, this might help ... I think you can se that the frames you got are as in the pictures, and that they have all the fittings as came off the bike !

Anyhow, hope these help...:confused::confused: Give me a call if you need to -we'll get you sorted out !!!:mcgun

Hii again David,
just noticed that the footrest pic is not stricktly an 1150 GS, but I think it shows where the rubber "end cap" goes, that fits in the pannier "groove" (for want of a better description !

Thanks for all your advice guys, i should really leave the post up as a competition to see who can find the answer as i know what it is now.

Something really quite simple but gonna be a slight pain to make the panniers fit....

It took the experienced eye of the BMW mechanic...

He was only able to spot it when i had another 1150gsa beside mine...

Any guesses ????:aidan

Cmon... its obvious...

I'm guessing looking at your picture, you don't have a standard exhaust fitted :nenau

Are you really sure they're not on back-to-front? :nenau

I had a set of those for a while (before I changed to the TT panniers) and I don't remember them looking like that.

There really is only one way they can go on... They are not back to front...
