Pannier widths?

hi, can anyone tell me the width of a 1200gs with both vario panniers fitted in normal and expanded modes?

i've got a 1200gsa with givi racks fitted with givi e21 21 litre panniers but they're not big enough and stick out a fair bit considering the capacity.

what i want to do is lose the givi top box and panniers that i have at the moment and fit a normal gs rear rack and vario panniers. the madness behind this is so i can have the cases unexpanded during normal riding and expand the right side to put my lid in when i'm away from the bike.

i don't need huge capacity just luggage to stay on the bike all the time without feeling that i'm towing a caravan.

Quick nip out to the Garage in the rain has it at 35" and 39" respectively.
