Panniers or Topbox?

I'm off on a little 4 day trip and can't decide whether to fit the panniers or top box. Obviously, I want everyone to think that I am on a round the world adventure, so that would lead me to fitting the panniers AND top box (although I don't have many stickers), but what am I going to put in all that luggage?

I only need to take three pairs of pants, jeans and T shirts, and could easily fit all that in the top box, but there is an image we have to uphold. I guess I could take some oil, some sandwiches and crisps, maybe some kind of tent (even though I won't ever use it), but I can't think of anything else to fill the panniers.

So what shall I do? I'm getting a headache just thinking about this.

I assume Vario setup, so take all 3 ....... so that you can leave either the top box or RH pannier empty for your helmet when you're not with the bike and you'll get away with not expanding them.

Think outside the 'box' and just use a tankbag.........!

Or you could do what my Russian friend did and take the empty boxes all the way to Russia, open them up for a minute then close them again and come home........Take them into the living room, shut all the doors and open the boxes up again......That way he could savour the sweet Russian country air in his bedsit flat in Leith!

Travel empty. Fill the boxes with duty free on the way home. Buy stickers from ebay. Sorted

last week sun 23.9.12 i started to pack me panniers for a 10 day trip with the partner on sun eve all packed ready for the off mon eve then sat there with a nice cuppa thinking of all that freash air away (we was heading to south france /spain) for some reson i kept me eye on the weather and decided to check as much as i could

well i thought weather looks shite all week (keeping in mind this was partners first big ride )

well weather looking really bad so had a little word with the gov she dident sound happy

so by 9,45pm sun night got off the phone after booking me all inclusive to lazorote for 7 nights flew tues morning sun sea sand

mind you sounds like i made right choice after hearing all the flooding and deaths in spain

Right, Topbox and tank bag it is, but I've also printed off the locations of all Parcel Force depots across the UK, just in case I need any emergency items sending to me, or if I need to send any purchases home
