off to Paris for 3 days with the wife no bike, flying in, any suggestions where to stay? first time weve been so we want to see as much as possible.. any help would be good. ta Chris

I like to stay in Montparnasse, always busy, lots of restaurants. Buy a Michelin guide to Paris and figure out what you would like to see. The Bateau Mouche...boat trip...is great fun. Musee d'Orsay stunning.

Maybe a long shot and I have not tried it but www.ryanair.com have a link to a hotel site (theirs) which is very good.

Last time I worked there I stayed at Porte de Orleans in a clean tidy room 2 or 3 star for 70 euros. Really OK. Should be easy to find something. And with the Metro no problemto get around.

If you get a chance, spend and evening walking around the Monmartre area.......my favourite part of Paris....well worth a visit :thumb

Go native and sleep under the bridges !! Cheap and fun !!

Rivoli area is in, loads of bars, restaurants, clubs, etc. You're also on the main shopping area. There's an Ibis, Sofital and Orion there.

Other side of tiwn would be around the Champs Elysee. More expensive (Mariott, George V), but there are some smaller and nice hotels as well. Bonus is that on the other side of Etoile is Ave Grande Armee, and every motorbike manufacturer is present there!!!

Thanks lads we,v booked into the Bellevue in Monmartre area I may just end up blaming you Fanum for this as it sounds a bit lively! ( I do ride a b\w after all).

Beacon, if you've not gone yet then pick up a copy of the D & K Eyewitness guide to Paris.

It's an easy to follow guide book with well illustrated guided walks that take you just far enough off the major tourist trails to be interesting - for example did you know there is a vineyard in Montmartre?

For a first timer it's excellent. Once you've got the feel of the place you can start to rely on your intuition but until then let someone else show you the best places :D

The flea market at Clignacourt on a Sunday morning is worth a visit but watch your wallet.

Cheers

Dick
