We are going to be travelling up to Ardrossan from Cornwall overnight next week to catch the 7.00am ferry to Arran then across to Kintyre.

We should get to Ardrossan around 3 in the morning (ish) and have time for a few hours kip before the 7.00am ferry - any locals know the parking situation down there by the ferry - obviously we don't want to be driving round & round the town in the wee hours looking for a spot (8 meter van).
Cheers in advance :thumb2

You should have no problem parking at the ferry terminal, as far as I recall there is loads of room.

Also just before the terminal is Ardrossan Marina which has loads of parking - can't see it being busy that time of day...

Hello..

As I recall the entry to the car park proper is attended and you might struggle arriving there that early. Having said that, if you're catching the early ferry you should be able to just drive up and pitch up ready for the ferry in one of the embarkation lanes (think the bigger vehicles queue on the left lane)- then just walk back to the check in booth when they open up. Don't forget your alarm clock though.. although one of the Calmac folks will be along before too long with a clipboard to remind you, I'm sure..

Otherwise there is a layby on the A71 shortly before where it meets the A78 where I have caught a few z's myself in times past.

Enjoy Arran. If you're taking the road over the mountain (turning right off the ferry towards Lochranza) you'll wish you were on a GS though :)

Best,
Rob

Cheers Rob, this site never fails to amaze me, is there any question that cannot be answered :beerjug:

Steve, you could come and park it in my driveway.
But that would be on the wrong side of the country, sorry!:P

That's OK Charles, we're coming back down the East Coast side the following week along with a few other vans - we'll also have much more time as we won't have booked ferries to consider (perhaps a week or two). The vans will need a good mucking out by then as well so a nice solid drive would be great. See you about the 31st then :thumb2

:D

Can't speak for this port, but I normally just park up for a night's sleep at the ferry terminals in Scotland. Never had a problem yet.

BTW - I regularly park a motorhome at carparks where overnight parking is allowed, but overnight sleeping is forbidden. Had a knock on the door only once, but ignored it and soon went away. Besides, how can the parking gestapo prove beyond reasonable doubt you were sleeping....

As gr8roberto said, just arrive at the harbour and park up in the loading lane. Quite a lot of campervans do that. And in the morning if you've time, you can stroll back to Asda for your breakfast.:)
