Partially Integrated ???

Hi, had my GS about three weeks now and I'm curious to know more about the ABS and the Partially Integrated thingy !!

Does the ABS work on the front brake only? I can only see the disk with the holes in (which I assume is the sensor) on the front although I only gave the rear a cursory glance.

The Partially integrated thing? Is that like Honda's Combined/Linked Braking system? Am I right in thinking that it's only the front lever that uses it though? Use of the footbrake only operated the rear but the front brake operates both? If that's the case, what proportion is the split? I've used Honda's CBS on a VFR and it seemed fine.

I'll answer on the assumption that your bike isn't new and that therefore you didn't get the rider manual with it (and that this isn't a wind-up)!

The ABS works on both wheels. The rear toothed-ABS ring is hidden by the final-drive but it is there on the rear disc.

The semi-linked braking is operated by the front brake lever only.

It is described by BMW as being capable of distributing the braking forces between the front and rear according to conditions/need.

The rear brake pedal operates only that brake but as I understand it, if you apply both brakes, the distribution of braking force is still determined by the bike.

If your bike is new, may I say.........

Thanks for that, it's a 2005 bike from a main BMW dealer but no manual to explain it all. Mostly I've managed to find out what I need by searching the forum but not that one
