................Why?

It says why. Mr penguin.thankyou the other two I'll try those and see if I can bring my dream to reality.

Perhaps one of us isn't being clear enough....why would you build a "new" bike from parts? It will cost you 10 or more times what a complete bike would cost?

Ok Mr penguin.hp2e are knocking around from 10 to 15 G depending on condition.so I figure take the concept.buy a new frame, find a written off gs have engine, electrics and back end running gear hopefully. just need a frontend.but as I say a bit more detective work.but at a guesstimate I would say 6 to 9 g.it's only a theory at the moment.but the plus side is choice of suspension, wheels, and an engine with a balancing shaft as opposed to enduro engine without.and you built it.

1150 engine has a lump of torque at 2000 and again at 5000. 1200 (twin cam) is a lot more linear - you get more as you rev it harder. From that it would seem that the 1200 would be a lot faster but looking at the (GPS) speedometer I always find I'm going faster on the 1150 than the 1200.

My 1200 is an RT - When I got the 1150GS I saw it as a stepping stone to a 1200GS, now I can see that the engines are different enough that the 1150 is worth keeping and I shan't be trading it for a 1200GS.

Depends how you want to ride it - I'd expect off road the 1150 to be better, on twisty roads the 1150 is better, for fast flowing roads then the 1200 is better. The gearbox on my 1200 is much slicker and the whole bike feels better built and more refined but maybe that's because my 1150 clearly had a hard time from its previous owner.
