Needed a part yesterday, rang up main stealer near to me, yes sir we've the part in stock, jump on bike to go get it, very helpfull and all that, but wrong part, oh that part, sorry but the picture on the screen isn't very clear, we haven't got the part you want in stock, . Rang the other main stealer, Yes sir we've that part in stock, got someone else to ring and ask just to confirm, same anwser, so off i go again (45 mile round trip), yes you've guessed, oh that part, we haven't got that in stock. Was it my fault for not having the part number ?, -- this is what i asked for, "the male Q/D connector on the tank crossover fuel pipe for a GS1150 adv, the L shape part" , not the end of the world, used a straight piece in the end with a slightly longer piece of fuel hose. Its not really the parts man sitting on the computer, he knows he's job, but doesn't actually work on the vehicles, so unless its got a part number, all he can do is look on the screen. The guys that work on the bikes and know all the parts by handling and fitting them don't get to sit behind a parts computer. Not like the old days of the man with a brown coat, woodbine behind the ear, who would amble off half way through your sentence and come back with the part you wanted, plus the parts that you didn't know you needed till you were half way through the job. Where have they all gone, people that could do two jobs. Mind you, where would i have been without my BM main stealer yesterday, its not the people i'm moaning about but the system, phew, i'll have a cuppa now. :D
