... or does everyone have difficulty ? Four weeks after purchase of my cheap Glide it's still at the fettler waiting for the correct parts to be shipped. I realise it is 18yrs old but surely a clutch cable can't be hard to find  In fairness the chap in the shop is as frustrated as I am because it's blocking one of his ramps but he has had the wrong parts shipped by different suppliers, i.e. wrong size belt, wrong pulley, clutch cable and now brake seals :tears

Welcome to the world of Harley Davidson......hog parts seem ok though....

Their website is quite detailed and they supply most service items.

You have to dig out the specialists....also I've found it easier to buy stuff on eBay.com and have it shipped over.....

Hi Paul

Or try jersey HD they have a great on line parts finder and don't charge vat:thumb2

If you do get billed at customs, jersey HD refund it, I have had lots of parts from these guys and always good.

cheers

Mark

your first mistake is taking it to someone that doesn't have 'the knowledge'.

Harleys aren't like bmw's -they are organised and have specific and correct part numbers that work with the correct model number.

Harley is almost similar - except pretty much anything from a model line fits anything else

So - 'touring' models are big twin FL models - this will get you started with most things.- they are then sub-divided into models like road king, electra glide etc - but are all the same under the cycle parts ( mostly ) :)

Have some clutch cables here : http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sac...rcycles_Parts_Accessories&Model=Touring&rt=nc

Agree with all the above comments. I'm afraid to say your "fettler" doesn't seem to know what he's doing:nenau

All Harley spares are easily and readily available.....if you know here to go.

Hope you get it sorted soon. let me know if you have a problem with the clutch cable. I've got a few spares lying around and if you give me the dimensions of the old one I'll take a look and see if I've got one :thumb2

Thank you ...

... for the links and particularly the offer of a spare clutch cable; as to the fettler, well all I can say is that they are an established HD/Buell specialist who came highly recommended :nenau

I'd like to be more 'hands on' with this bike, but as it needed a new belt and a few other bits I thought I'd get it professionally sorted the first time before tackling it myself :blast

Clutch cables can be a nightmare. Not waiting for them, but picking the correct one.

My local inde told me to measure from point A to point B on my cable. - but i can't remember exactly where the points were now :rob
He then picked one out from the hundreds he has in his workshop.

Yep, hundreds of permutations...

I'd measure the inner cable, then the outer (with the adjuster fully screwed in), then the distances between the adjuster and the ends of the outer. The exact position of the adjuster may or may not be very critical but best to get it right.

You should then be sure of getting the right one:augie

I use these guys - they seem to be able to lay their hands on most things quickly enough (Zodiac, S&S parts etc) and at decent prices, they cater for all marques, but also hand build custom chops etc.

I've known them for years so do have an association with them, but have been very well served by them - hence the endorsement.

"Al" has a bike in 100% Biker this month

It's mine now ...

... pics to follow but I left the Stadium at 11ish and parked in Devon at 3am; all bits appear to have followed me home, so let the de-chroming process begin :D

There was a bit of drama right at the death when the brand new clutch cable snapped, but they stripped one off another bike and fitted it to mine asap, possibly something to do with me stood watching :augie

was that possibly due to you giving them your bestest "Herr Gruppenführer" look :D:D:D:D:D

how was the ride down , feel much different to collection day ?

... I wasn't best pleased :ronno As to the ride down, well it left me with a few impressions, in no particular order; smoked mirrors, made so that folk can sneak up on you ! When 'making progress' it drinks like  Big screen is good, but it does catch the wind. Lighting set-up is weird, spots wired to come on with low beam only :blast Highway pegs, my legs haven't been that far apart since my piles were cauterised. It's in surprisingly good condition for an 18 year old bike, I feckin love it :D

sounds very suspect to me...brand new quality clutch cables don't break when new .
