Hi people,
I'm new to the Forum having just purchased a 2020 GSA. I previously had a Yamaha TDM for 27 years and loved it. The problem I have is the missus gets very uncomfortable on the back of the BMW It doesn't appear to be the hardness of the seat but the seating position and it gives her a sore back and shoulders. Has anyone experienced this and is there a cure. I'm stuck with her so changing wife won't work

Unfortunately that is standard if you still have the OEM seats, they are extremely unforgiving if riding any distance, there are a number of options but also unfortunately they are expensive, after 15 years of GS’s for me there is only one option Sargents Seats both rider and passenger are excellent there are sometimes sets available on here check For Sale forum good luck

Welcome
If she's anything like my wife, she'll not be able to really explain what needs altering to make it 'right'..it transpired that seat to footpeg distance seem key to my Mrs's comfort...so fitting some peg extenders sorted it for a little over £100
Bruudt do them. Good luck finding a solution

Thanks guys, i have a pad on the top box, she has complained that it is a bit hard. The previous one on the Yamaha was a bit softer and more forgiving and slightly wrap around She was so comfortable on the Yamaha that she used to fall asleep. I would shuffle back a bit, and push her into the backrest. I'll have a look at the footpegs

Could it be that you have the rear seat pad adjusted to the front setting? if you move it back to the back setting (or visa versa) it may just make the difference. It's not going to make the pads any softer but may just change the angle her back rests on them.

Seats are a very personal thing and what works for one rider doesn’t work for another. I bought Sargent seats for my 2014 GS LC and both my wife and I found them much less comfortable than the OE seats. It was disappointing as the Sargent seat on my VFR800 was all day comfortable.

Consider extra height. Depending on your comparative heights holding herself even slightly to one side to see around you can be uncomfortable. As you can see a sleeping mat was an on the road fix also required. Effective if not elegant...we were a long way past elegant!
