Ive used the latest garmin software, tried various USBs and different PC and cable all to no avail.

Done master reset and renoved and refitted battery

No PC will find my zumo and the garmin dashboard wont see it either, zumo screen shows pic of pc and zumo joined by cable.

Any ideas ??

Works fine on bike BTW just cant update maps.

Tried Garmin help and no joy there apart from to send it in for 111 quid :(

Danke in anticipation

Not had this happen but it used to be that a non showing usb device could sometimes be sorted by removing from the registry any instance of previous incarnation - check web how to achieve this.
or
Are you sure the cable is good, I realise the 550 is recognising connection but it might still be the signal side of the lead.
£111 would be for a replacement 660 I guess? Not a bad deal if you can get the latest maps on it and you would recoup most of the cost selling the now useless (to you) mounts for bike and car, wouldn't you

Sorry I can't offer direct assistance but I hope I get offered a similar deal when my 500 goes t1ts up!

Update, sorry I'm a twat, didn't realise you had tried different cables - strike that bit then

If it works fine on bike, you could transfer new maps to sd card in a reader on the pc via basecamp and that would allow you to use latest mapping on the 550 wouldn't it?

Are you using the right lead?the correct one has a filter or something in it.I found this out when my computer couldn`t see my 660 when using a normal usb cable.

Just reread the post and have seen that you have tried this

as above, mine used to connect using any usb lead then one day it stopped working, tried different cables, computers etc al the same, then i borrowed a friends cable from his montana and it connected straight away.

the cables that didnt work still allowed a connection of other usb devices though.

Spot on :)

I used 2 x crap leads and then the garmin one just worked

Im genuinly grateful to all those who posted help, I would have spent 11 quid over a 2 quid cable otherwise, my sincere thanks:thumb2

There definitely is a difference, I remember now that I could not use a standard mini usb/ciggie lighter lead (aka Tom Tom lead) to power the 500 when I put it in the car (I didn't have the cradle at the time) Whenever I tried to, it switched to pc mode.
Your problem may be different but I suspect, connected.

Please disregard this useless drivel, you sorted it already!
