Peak District Byway claims: Hope Cross.

Stunning views on the way up
(both photos taken on the lower section - less than half way up)

Spout, that is Edale and the bottom of Chapelgate in the back ground of that picture.
The going is easily seen as sandy.
Now it would be a real boost to trail riding if this got a Byway status.
I've read that the Haggside network is also under a Byway claim so please send in a UE form for that also.

I've downloaded the form, so I'll get it filled in. I'll also have to pop round to my old 4x4 group to see if they know about it. The long sandy land off the A57, I used to know as the Roman Road was a regular run for us, it starts with the worlds shallowest ford over a concrete bridge thing at the Northern end of the road, near Gilliot Hey Farm on the map.

The other lane was known to me as the 'little bridge'. It was a pain to get on too, as we all would park in the nearby car park or turn around at Hagg Farm, whilst one member walked to the gate, and then we would very quickly cross the road and drop down the steep slightly rocky lane until the last vehicle had crossed the Snake Pass and shut the gate. We would then drive down the lane under the heavy tree cover, cross a very narrow bridge before driving eastwards alongside of the river, before doubling back on ourselves a couple of times in the rutted, and often muddy climb up the hillside to the eventual top of the lane near Hope Cross before driving the Roman road to Harrop Farm and then a few more lanes towards Bamford, or over to Chapelgate and Roych Clough.

It's been a very long time since I did any proper green laning. I just sort of drifted away from it.

Form printed and filled in,
never realised it was a legal ridable route , walked it many a time,
Ill try and ride it in the next week or 2.
Is it easily Gs able? and especially if on my own?

Certainly is from the Hope end up to the cross. Gets a bit "GS tricky" after that (steep/loose slope).

Yep, they are the routes in question.
And Haggside, Hagg Farm and Sh!thill were on the other side of the A57.

Dazco, at the moment according to the local Highway Authority and the Peak Park this is NOT a legal route!! Anyone using it without permission or the ability to prove it's status as a legal right of way is liable to prosecution. Their words not mine.
In reality the chances of a prosecution are very remote and as far as I am concerned I will keep using the route along with the Hagg Side routes that are also under closure orders. Just be aware of it's current status before using it:thumb

With a bit of luck the local authorities will see sense on this route, and others like it, that have obvious historical vehicular rights but I'm not holding my breath.

GS'able? The southern end yes, the Northern end only if you are good at bouncing a GS over the rocks:D Although I'm sure Spout and Cassey, among others, will have done it :bow:bow

not bad at bouncing the bike but i bounce better:thumb.
If your up that way in the near future ill try and pop along.
done most of the others round that area, be nice to add another

Did this one today and was a cracker:thumb2
saw a couple more bikes up near hope cross.
I wouldnt like to think id got to do it from Snake pass end, that is a bit rough and rocky.
Nice to know that its doable ont GS:beer:

What happened with this ? Would love to know the outcome... or is it still ongoing.

Threads about closures need a regular update as often those of us who are not in a position either time wise or distance wise to go out with or meet up with a local TRF group need this info.
